What is Geocaching?

At www.geocaching.com you will see this description:

Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache.

Because I don't want to create another web page with a detailed description how geocaching works, I put some links in the chapter Links below.

Who is Qwertz?

The word "Qwertz" was created more than 10 years ago, when my kids and I were "fighting" for fun with "dirty words" . On a German computer keyboard you will find "Qwertz" in the upper left corner. The American mutant of "Qwertz" is "Qwerty" . When I needed a pseudonym for Geocaching in Autumn 2002, I remembered the nice word "Qwertz".

My profil at www.geocaching.com is linked here: Profil of Qwertz

My Caches (those I have hidden myself)

1. I hid my 1st geocache in January 2003: Holzkopf

Already November 2002, just after I started geocaching, the lack of communication / human interaction annoyed me. With the exception of Cache-Events, which were rather rare that days, most of the geocachers acted without interation to other geocachers.

To overcome this, I developed the idea: IMC = International Multi Cache. Then I invited 14 geocachers from different countries in Europe to this project. Half a year later and with more than 400 emails / posts (in a Yahoo group) the idea became mature and 30 caches were hidden, two in each of the 15 coutries. More details of that idea can be found in this file IMC No. 1 project description .

2. & 3. My two caches within this project are: European IMC No.1 P-D - Glaube / Belief and European IMC No.1 S-D - Wasser / Water

An overview with all IMC No. 1 caches and some statistics are published under www.woelper.net/gc/imc-ec-no1.php

Late 2003, when the IMC No. 1 caches already recorded some finds, the team agreed, that time is ripe for IMC No. 2. Because the European IMC went well, we decide to make IMC No. a world-wide IMC. This prooved to be much more difficult. First of all it was not so easy to find at least one geocacher on each of the 5 continents, who was willing to participate in a project like this. Some team members gave up quickly and we had to find substitutes. Once the team seemed to be complete and the project was almost done we lost one country / continent and 2 more were not able to hide their primary caches.

4. & 5. My two caches within this project are: IMC No. 2 P-DE - No Wind over Schwelmer Stadwald? and IMC No. 2 S-DE - Luft & Wind / Air & Wind

An overview with all IMC No. 2 caches and some statistics are published under www.woelper.net/gc/imc-no2.php

Once again I would like to thank Manuel from Portugal for assisting me in the past two years in organizing these projects. Especially in recruiting team members he did a great job!

6. & 7. My two caches within this project are: IMC No. 3 P-DE Philosopher's Stone/Stein derWeisen and IMC No. 3 S-DE - Wo ist die Höhle hin / Where is the cave gone?

An overview with all IMC No. 3 caches and some statistics are published under www.woelper.net/gc/imc-no3.php

8. & 9. My two caches within this project are: IMC No. 4 P-DE - Blacksmith's Fire / Schmiedefeuer and IMC No. 4 S-DE - Charcoal Kiln / Holzkohlemeiler

An overview with all IMC No. 4 caches and some statistics are published under www.woelper.net/gc/imc-no4.php

My caches 8 & 9 completed and closed the IMC-series for the 4 elements - water, air, earth and fire.
